The Reiki Corner
Welcome to the Reiki Corner, perhaps the most woo woo corner of this website (unless of course we're combining Reiki and Tarot)! Many people have heard the word Reiki, and you've likely already searched for a definition to see exactly what you're getting into. However, if you're like most people, I'm going to lose you as soon as I say that Reiki is a form of energy healing.
See? You're ready to run away because energy is something that is felt, not seen. We, as humans, have a very difficult time believing in things that we cannot physically see, touch, or make sense of. Like Santa, Reiki takes a sense of trust and a bit of a leap of faith into the possibility of magic and the unknown. Also like Santa, not everyone is going to be open to this type of energy work, and that's ok. If you're just here for calligraphy and somehow ventured into this space, I'm not going to judge you one bit if you're hitting that back button!
I could talk all day about what Reiki is, and what it isn't. Let's get some basics out of the way. Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui in Japan, and has since been taught and passed down for many generations of students turned teachers. I have completed training for Reiki I, Reiki II, and Reiki III with Danielle Parker of the Salty Blossom (check her out, she’s amazing!). The next step would be to become a Reiki Master, which would allow me to teach Reiki to others. For now, I'm more than happy being a Reiki III practitioner!
Reiki works with the energy fields of the mind, body, soul, and spirit. Energy follows intention, which is what makes Reiki possible in the first place. Nearly everyone can say that they’ve had an experience with thinking of someone they haven’t talked to in ages, only for that person to call or text. Some may call this coincidence, and others (like me) call this everyday magic.
Sending and receiving Reiki is about tapping into this everyday magic, the flow of energy that connects all of us in a way that no one can truly understand. Still not sure what I'm getting at? Think of a time when you’ve felt truly at peace, whether it was on a vacation, after the birth of a child, or even on your last hike through the mountains. Often accompanied by a warm tingling all over the body, or just a sense of utter calm, this is how I describe the feeling of Reiki.
